Rice University Master of Energy Economics

Rice University’s Master of Energy Economics is a 12- month, full-time professional master’s program offered by the Department of Econom-ics in coordination with Rice University’s Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies. Students benefit from the academic and research strengths of Rice University to thrive as strategic think-ers and leaders in the energy industry.

The Master of Energy Economics provides stu-dents a dynamic curricu-lum rooted in microeco-nomics and econometrics and allows students to customize their degree with a diverse selection of electives in energy policy, industrial organization, transportation, electric-ity and corporate finance. The program culminates with the option to pursue either an internship or an intensive practicum ex-perience working with an e nergy c ompany. E x-amples of past internship sponsors include: Ernst & Young, Chevron, BP, Saudi Aramco, Pemex, and many more.

Our location in Houston, Texas, known globally as the “Energy Capital of the World”, allows students to engage leaders at the cross-road of actionable decision making and policy implementation, thus providing a new avenue for graduates to develop human capital relevant for business development and/or strategic planning roles.

The program’s ideal can-didate is someone who is ready to tackle the rigor-ous curriculum, and at the same time, contribute to the classroom discourse with their own experiences and knowledge. Master of Energy Economics alumni have stated one of the pro-gram’s greatest strengths is the cohort’s diversity made up of international and domestic students, as well as students from a variety of engineering and non-engineering backgrounds, who each have unique pro-fessional experience and cultural perspectives in energy.

The Master of Energy Economics admits students annually for fall in enrollment. The Early Decision applications are due February 1, 2019 and Regular Decision Applications are due April 30, 2019. Stu-dents may apply online at http://meecon.rice.edu.
